PSG's Unexpected Draw Against Clermont

Mbappe and Konate

Surprising Draw for Paris Saint-Germain

Clermont Foot earned a point against Ligue 1 champions PSG- Paris Saint-Germain in a surprise stumble from the French giants on Saturday. Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and the rest were unable to break down the home defense as they dropped two points in their bid to reclaim the league crown. Star striker Mbappe started despite concerns over his fitness.

Frustrating Goalless Draw

Paris Saint-Germain were held to a frustrating goalless draw by basement side Clermont in Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash. PSG started the day in third place with just three victories from their opening six games but should have been full of confidence after thrashing Marseille 4-0 the previous weekend. However, with question marks over Kylian Mbappe’s fitness, the Parisiens lacked a cutting edge in attack as they dropped two points in their defense of the league title.

Mbappe’s Fitness Gamble

Luis Enrique handed a start to Mbappe despite concerns over the 24-year-old’s fitness after he limped off during the win over Marseille. But the France international struggled to influence the game, reduced to half chances in a frustrating afternoon for the visitors. After having an appeal for a penalty turned away, Mbappe almost laid on an assist when he pulled a cross back to Ousmane Dembele, whose first-time shot from the edge of the box forced Mory Diaw into a fine fingertip save. Clermont had threatened on the counter-attack without testing Gianluigi Donnarumma in the first half, but his opposite number was tested again by Dembele’s volley on the stroke of half-time.

Clermont’s Heroic Goalkeeping

PSG's Unexpected Draw Against Clermont

Goalkepper Mory Diaw Man of the Match

The hosts came firing out of the traps after the restart and would have taken the lead only for the excellent reflexes of Donnarumma. The PSG goalkeeper kept out Shamar Nicholson’s point-blank shot before gathering himself to save Yohann Magnin’s effort on the rebound. Another opportunity came and went for PSG as Mbappe – who was later booked for simulation – clipped the outside of the post, before Diaw pulled off top-drawer saves to deny substitute Goncalo Ramos and Danilo, as Clermont held on for only their second point of the season.

Final Standings

The result moves PSG above Nice into second but they remain a point behind leaders Brest, who have a game in hand. Clermont, meanwhile, climb above Lyon having clinched just their second point of the season in Ligue 1

Talking Point for PSG: Should Mbappe Have Started?

Before kick-off, there were strong suggestions that Mbappe would not feature from the start such was the concern over his fitness, but Luis Enrique gambled and included his star striker in his first XI – and he remained on the pitch for the entirety of the match. It was a risk that didn’t pay off with Mbappe producing an uncharacteristic performance, being robbed of possession on several occasions, failing to create any of the usual magic in the final third and even being booked for a perceived dive. With a crunch Champions League match with Newcastle to follow on Wednesday, it will now be a race against time for the PSG backroom staff to get Mbappe up to full fitness.

Player of the Match: Mory Diaw (Clermont)

The Clermont goalkeeper produced no fewer than 10 saves to help keep Mbappe and co at bay in an inspired performance.

Brentford vs Luton Town Prediction and Betting Tips | December 2nd 2023

Brentford vs Luton Town at the Gtech Community Stadium in Premier League action on Saturday.

The hosts have seen a drop in form recently and after registering three wins in a row earlier, they have now suffered back-to-back defeats, failing to score in these games as well. They met London rivals Arsenal last week and suffered a narrow 1-0 loss, with Kai Havertz scoring the match-winner in the 89th minute.

The visitors returned to winning ways after six games last week, as goals from Teden Mengi and Jacob Brown helped them record a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. Following just their second win of the season, they opened up a four-point gap between them and 18th-placed Sheffield United.

Brentford vs Luton Town Head-to-Head and Key Numbers

  • The two teams have squared off 79 times in all competitions since 1920 and will meet for the first time in the Premier League.
  • The visitors have the upper hand in the head-to-head record at the moment with 36 wins while the hosts are not far behind with 28 wins to their name.
  • 15 meetings between them have ended in a stalemate.
  • They last met in the 2020-21 edition of the EFL Championship, with the hosts securing a league double with an aggregate score of 4-0.
  • Brentford have won five of their last six meetings against Luton Town across all competitions, keeping clean sheets in these wins as well.
  • Six of Luton’s eight defeats in the Premier League this season have come in their away games.
  • Interestingly, one of their two wins has also come in their travels.
  • The hosts have outscored the visitors 19-12 in 13 league games this season and also have a better defensive record, conceding five fewer goals (18).

Brentford vs Luton Town Prediction

The Bees have failed to score in their last two league outings and will look to return to goalscoring ways. They have a solid home record against the visitors, registering three wins on the trot, and scoring 10 goals without a reply.

Head coach Thomas Frank has a selection headache for the match with as many as nine players set to be sidelined through injuries. Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, Kevin Schade, Mathias Jensen, Nathan Collins, Josh Dasilva, Mikkel Damsgaard, and Mads Rasmussen are confirmed absentees while Ivan Toney remains suspended.

The Hatters registered just their second win in Premier League history last week and will look to continue that form in this match. They are winless in their last three away games in the league, scoring three times while shipping in six goals.

Rob Edward also has a few injury concerns for the trip to West London as Dan Potts, Mads Andersen, Reece Burke, Albert-Mboyo Sambi Lokonga, and Marvelous Nakamba are sidelined through injuries.

Issa Kabore was absent against Crystal Palace on account of a concussion and faces a late fitness test while Cauley Woodrow is also a doubt.

While the hosts have had the upper hand in recent meetings against the visitors, their lengthy absentee list should cause some problems for them here. With that in mind and considering the current forms of the two teams, we are backing a narrow win for the home side.

Prediction: Brentford 2-1 Luton Town.

AC Milan vs Frosinone Prediction and Betting Tips | 2nd December 2023

AC Milan vs Frosinone at the San Siro on Saturday in Serie A.

AC Milan come into this game on the back of a 3-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Goals from German attackers Marco Reus and Karim Adeyemi and a goal from English winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens secured the win for Borussia Dortmund. Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze scored the goal for AC Milan. Frosinone, on the other hand, beat Genoa 2-1 in their most recent league game. Goals from Argentine winger Matias Soule and centre-back Ilario Monterisi sealed the deal for Frosinone. Ukrainian attacker Ruslan Malinovskyi scored the goal for Genoa.

AC Milan vs Frosinone Head-to-Head and Key Numbers

  • In four head-to-head encounters between the two sides, AC Milan have won two games and drawn two.
  • American winger Christian Pulisic has managed six goal contributions in 10 league starts for AC Milan this season.
  • Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has managed two goal contributions in 13 league starts for AC Milan.
  • Argentine winger Matias Soule has managed seven goal contributions in 11 league starts for Frosinone this season.
  • Brazilian midfielder Reinier Jesus has managed three goal contributions in six league starts for Frosinone this season.

AC Milan vs Frosinone Prediction

AC Milan are currently 3rd in the league, and have won only one of their last five league games. They find themselves six points behind league leaders Inter Milan. It has been a season of inconsistency for the club, with their current form not doing manager Stefano Pioli any favours. The 37-year old Olivier Giroud continues to lead the line admirably, and has proven to be a surprisingly dependable goalkeeping option if needed as well. However, Giroud is at an age where dependency on him should be lessening, but in AC Milan’s case, it seems to have increased this season.

Frosinone, on the other hand, are 10th in the league, and have won two of their last five league games. Argentine winger Matias Soule has proven to be one of the best young players in the league so far, and parent club Juventus will be keeping a keen eye on his development. It has been suggested that Juventus could recall the 20-year old after an excellent start to his league campaign.

AC Milan need to get back to winning ways, and should emerge victorious here.

Prediction: AC Milan 2-0 Frosinone

AC Milan vs Frosinone Betting Tips

Tip 1: Result- AC Milan

Tip 2: Game to have over / under 2.5 goals- Under 2.5 goals

Tip 3: AC Milan to keep a clean sheet- Yes
